Types of Plastic Pipes
When shopping for plastic pipes you will encounter the following names:
PVC/CPVC = Rigid and white, PVC is the most popular choice for plastic piping. PVC pieces can be fused together with heat or connected together with thread or solvent weld (glue). PVC is used for cold water lines while CPVC is used for hot water.
PolyEthylene (PE) = PE is a colorless, flexible plastic that can be bend around corners, eliminating the need for fittings. PE is frequently used as a supply line for sprinkler systems. It is also termed PEX in water supply.
ABS = Rigid, black piping material used for drain lines. Cheaper to install than PVC.
