Many homes have a sewage ejector pump, it sounds like exactly what it is, it is usually installed in the basement and it helps with the flow of sewage from the bathrooms and laundry rooms. If you did not have an ejector pump, let's just say your basement would be very messy. Make sure you know exactly where your pump is and what kind, model number, brand and serial number in case of nay problems. It is not unusual for ejector pumps to shut down, they are not made to last forever. The good news is that they are inexpensive if you install them your self. Some people are not inclined to change pumps so they hire a plumber to do it.
You can buy the pump itself or a Sewage Ejector Package from a company who is known as the best in the business Little Giant. They offer a Sewage ejector package that includes a 9S-CIA-RFS pump, a 30 gallon basin, a full flow check valve and a float switch. The basin is put into the floor and the pump is mounted from the bottom. The sewage drains into the basin and the fluid level gets high enough it sets off the float switch will turn on the pump and it will pump out the sewage through the check valve and into your regular drain lines.
The drain outlet is about 3 inches with a 3 x 2 inch rubber grommet. The discharge outlet is a 2 inch non threaded opening. The side inlet is set for a 4 inch drain pipe but can be bushed to a 3 inch. The pump is 4/10 horse power with a flow rate of 4800 gallons per hour at 5 feet. This is a perfect example of what type of ejector pump you need for your basement.
You don't need the entire package but it you wanted to get the set up it may extend the life of the pump somewhat.
